Explanation

This comic shows how an interaction between two women affected the later lives of their families. The woman with the red ribbon gives away $9999999 for free, an offer that the woman in the black hat eagerly picks up on. The humor comes from the ridiculousness of someone giving away such a large sum of money for free.

In a way, this comic demonstrates the concept of generational wealth; the woman with the black hat used the money to have a comfortable life, and allowed it for her kin; the woman in the red ribbon is poor as a result of her decision, and we can see it in her living situation (cracked chair legs and all).

Transcript

Two side-by-side panels showing an older woman on a chair and two kids sitting on the floor in front of her, listening. The woman to the left has a black hat with a rim, and the woman on the right has a red ribbon tied around her neck and an open-mouth toothy smile.

A speech bubble is coming from the two older women, showing the two of them in their youth: the woman with the red ribbon is pointing at a pile of green dollar bills and saying "free money $99999999", and the woman with the hat looks with excitement and says "FUCKKK YESSSS".

On the left, the woman with the black hat, now old and wearing glasses, sitting in a couch, says to the children: "That is how your grandma made us rich". The children seem amazed.

On the right, the woman with the red ribbon sits on a chair with broken legs. The floor has cracks in it. She says: "That is how your grandma made us poor". The children look angry.
