Welcome to the crawfishcomic wiki! Glad to have you here. This page serves as an all-in-one guide for writing pages for comics, videos and characters.

Adding a new comic

To add a new comic:

  • Create a page of the comic named "(number): (title)" (for videos, which are counted separately, use "Video (number): (title)"
    • Switch to the "edit source" more and copy in the page template from below.
  • Create a redirect from "(number)" to the comic's page.
  • Update Template:Latest post to point to the latest number ("(number)" or "Video (number)").

Or ask User:Unk-f000 to do it for you, they have an automatic script that pulls the post from Tumblr and turns it into a page. (TODO! I have to finish it!)

Writing explanations

The #1 rule of writing explanations is to have fun.

Wait! Why explainations?, you might ask. For the most part, it's because our page layout is ripped off directly from explain xkcd, the xkcd wiki.

In our case, what the explanation section is, is:

  • Any interesting information about the comics,
  • An explainer on the jokes,
  • An explanation of the title.

So long as you have all three elements, you've written an explanation!

Writing transcripts

A typical transcript follows the following formula:

  • A brief explanation of the whole comic (setting, style, description of the characters)
  • A panel-by-panel transcript. Each panel starts with ''Panel X:''.
    • Character quotes are either inline ("''Words words words''".) or go on a separate line (''Character:'' "''Words words words''".).

When describing characters/scenes, include some details, but don't go overboard. Think about identifying features of the comic - something that someone might remember, and would look for the comic using them as the keywords.
